A homeless man has been arrested in connection with the choking and attempted rape of a woman inside a Queens Park in broad daylight, NYPD officials say.

Police arrested 32-year-old Cuauhtemoc Cardenas and charged him with attempted rape, strangulation and assault. Cops say the suspect is homeless.

At around 6:30 pm on July 25, a 51-year-old woman was walking on Orange Trail in Forest Park when she felt a tap on her shoulder. As she turned around she was struck in the head and pushed off the trail by a man. She was pushed into the shrubs and bushes when the attacker tried to pull off her pants, which caused the woman to fall.

Investigators said the man wrapped a piece of cloth around her neck choking her as he attempted to sexually assault her. The woman was able to cry out for help as she fought him off. He fled towards the parkway underpass.

The victim was treated at a nearby hospital.

The NYPD had released a photo from surveillance video of a shirtless man running out of the park.

Police arrested Cardenas two days later and charged him with the attempted rape.
