Subway Motorman Sucker Punched

QUEENS, N.Y. — The NYPD is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man wanted in connection with an assault on an MTA employee at a busy Queens subway station.
According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at approximately 5:40 p.m., on the northbound 7 train platform at the 74 Street–Roosevelt Avenue subway station, located within the confines of the 115 Precinct and Transit District 20.
Investigators say an unidentified individual approached a 46-year-old male MTA subway motorman while the victim was on the platform. What began as a verbal dispute quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.
Police report that the suspect punched the motorman in the face before fleeing the station on foot in an unknown direction.
Emergency medical services responded to the scene and transported the victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, where he was treated for minor injuries and listed in stable condition.
The NYPD describes the sought individual as a male who was last seen wearing:
- A black ski mask
- Clear glasses
- A black jacket
- Black pants
- Black shoes
Authorities have released media depicting the individual, which is available through the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information (DCPI), and are urging anyone who recognizes the suspect to come forward.
The assault remains under active investigation by the NYPD. Officials say identifying the individual involved is critical, particularly given that the victim is a public transit employee who was assaulted while performing his duties.
