NYPD Seeks Public’s Help Identifying Suspect in Violent Subway Strangulation at 30 Avenue Station


Subway Psycho Strangles Straphanger in Random Attack

QUEENS, NY — Cops are looking for a subway psycho who beat and strangled a woman on a Queens train platform.


According to police, the incident took place on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at approximately 9:45 a.m., within the confines of the 114 Precinct and Transit District 20.


Investigators say a 49-year-old woman was exiting the 30 Avenue subway station when she was suddenly approached from behind by an unidentified individual. Without warning, the suspect allegedly pushed the victim, then proceeded to punch and choke her, escalating the assault before forcing her to the ground and kicking her in the head.


After the attack, the suspect fled the scene on foot, heading in an unknown direction. No arrests have been made at this time.


Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to Mount Sinai Queens Hospital. Police say she sustained minor injuries and was listed in stable condition.


The NYPD has released surveillance video and a description of the individual wanted in connection with the assault. The suspect is described as a woman with a dark complexion who was last seen wearing a black jacket, yellow sweater abd blue pants


Police are urging anyone who may recognize the individual or have information related to the Queens subway strangulation to come forward. The incident adds to growing concerns surrounding subway safety in Astoria and across Queens, particularly during morning commuting hours. While police have increased patrols in some transit hubs, officials continue to stress the importance of community cooperation in solving violent crimes.
