74-Year-Old Woman Robbed of $3,000 Inside Queens Building; Police Seek Female Suspect

QUEENS, NY -  A 74-year-old woman was robbed Friday afternoon inside a residential building in Queens, according to police, prompting an active search for a female suspect who fled the scene on foot.


The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. inside 135-38 39 Avenue, when the victim was approached from behind by an unidentified individual. Police say the suspect removed an envelope containing approximately $3,000 in cash from the woman’s bag before fleeing the building.



Authorities report that the suspect ran southbound on Main Street immediately after the theft. No injuries were reported, and the victim declined medical attention.


The NYPD is asking for the public’s help identifying the individual responsible.  Investigators released surveillance video of the suspect inside the building’s vestibule. 



The suspect is described as a female who was last seen wearin black glasses, black jacket, gray sweatpants, beige shoes and was seen carrying a beige bag.



Investigators believe the suspect may be familiar with the area and are reviewing nearby surveillance footage.


While the victim was unharmed, police emphasized the seriousness of the crime, particularly given the victim’s age and the location of the incident during daylight hours.





Anyone with information regarding this Queens robbery involving an elderly woman, or who may have seen a person matching the suspect’s description near Main Street and 39 Avenue on January 23, 2026, is urged to contact law enforcement.
