The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man wanted in connection with a grand larceny auto incident that took place within the confines of the 114 Precinct in Queens.
Here’s what we know so far.
According to police, the incident happened on Friday, February 13, 2026, at approximately 6:35 p.m., near the intersection of Astoria Boulevard and 49 Street in Astoria, Queens.
A 40-year-old man had arranged to meet an individual interested in purchasing his black 2013 Mercedes-Benz C300. What began as a routine vehicle sale quickly turned into a reported grand larceny.
Police say the unidentified individual asked to take the vehicle for a test drive. After getting behind the wheel, the suspect allegedly drove off and never returned.
The victim was not injured during the incident.
Authorities describe the sought individual as a male with a dark complexion, slim build and short hair.
At this time, investigators are reviewing available media and are urging anyone who recognizes the individual to come forward.
Vehicle sale meetups, especially those arranged privately, can present safety risks. This Astoria grand larceny auto case highlights the importance of:
- Meeting in well-lit, highly trafficked areas
- Bringing another person when completing private vehicle sales
- Verifying identification before handing over keys
- Considering “safe exchange zones” offered by local precincts
The NYPD continues to investigate this Queens auto theft incident and is asking residents in the Astoria area to review any relevant footage or information from the evening of February 13.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at https://crimestoppers.nypdonline.org/, on X @NYPDTips.
