QUEENS - Prosecutors charged a Queens man with murder after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death and then slit his own throat.
Marcin Pieciak, 36, was charged in the murder of his girlfriend 41-year-old Sarah McNally. Prosecutors said Pieciak went to the bar where McNally worked and fatally stabbed her in front of customers.
Pieciak was charged with murder in the second degree and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.
“This as an attack that shocked the community,” said Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz. “It was unprovoked and a devastating loss for the family. We are using every resource to make sure there is accountability.”
McNally worked as a bartender at the Ceili House Bar at 69-56 Grand Avenue in Maspeth. According to the indictment Pieciak walked into the pub at around 6:30 pm on March 30. He walked over to the bar and just began stabbing his girlfriend.
Prosecutors said Pieciak then used the knife to slit his own throat several times. Despite the self-inflicted wounds, Pieciak attempted to flee the bar. Prosecutors said a customer held Pieciak until cops arrived. The officers recovered two knives, they say they saw Pieciak drop as he left the bar.
McNally was rushed to an area hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
Pieciak is recovering from his injuries. He faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
