QUEENS, NY - A woman was violently stabbed while waiting at a bus stop in Queens early Monday morning in what police believe may have been a random attack.

According to the NYPD, the disturbing incident happened just before 6:20 a.m. on March 16 near 94th Street and 23rd Avenue in East Elmhurst. The location is along the route of the Q49 bus and sits just a few blocks south of LaGuardia Airport.

Police say a 30-year-old woman standing at the bus stop was approached by a man who suddenly launched a brutal assault.

Authorities say the suspect stabbed the woman multiple times, striking her in the back and left arm, before fleeing the scene.

Investigators believe the attack may have been an unprovoked random attack.

After the stabbing, the suspect — described as a man wearing all black clothingran from the scene on foot heading eastbound along 23rd Avenue. As of Monday, no arrests have been made and police have not released additional details about the suspect.

Officers from the NYPD’s 115th Precinct quickly responded to the scene along with EMS crews.

The injured woman was transported to Elmhurst Hospital for treatment after the stabbing. Police say she is currently listed in stable condition.

The early morning violence rattled residents in East Elmhurst, an area that sees steady commuter traffic due to its proximity to LaGuardia Airport and several major bus routes.
