Here are 10 things you can start doing now to protect yourself and your loved ones from identity theft: 1. Protect your Social Security number by keeping your Social Security card in a safe place at home. Don’t carry it with you or provide your number unnecessarily. 2. Be careful when you speak with unknown callers. Scammers may mislead you by using legitimate phone numbers or the real names of officials. If they threaten you or make you feel uneasy, hang up. 3. Create strong, unique passwords so others can’t easily access your accounts. Use different passwords for different accounts so if a hacker compromises one account, they can’t access other account

Moped Crew Make Off with Senior’s Purse  Police are searching for two men in connection with a purse snatching using a moped. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein  Queens Voice June 6, 2023 QUEENS - An elderly woman was robbed of her purse by a pair of muggers on a moped in Queens, cops said. At around 9 pm on May 29, a 70-year-old woman was walking in the vicinity of 108 Street and 68 Avenue in Forrest Hills, Queens. Cops said two men on a moped rode up behind the senior. The passenger on the back of a black moped ripped the purse off the woman’s shoulder and drove off. The victim did not sustain injuries. Investigators did not disclose how much cash or the value of the items of the purse were stolen.  Police released surveillance video of the suspects. One video shows the driver on the moped. Bayside Burglars Remove Safe from House - Cops Say Cops are searching for these men in connection with a burglary in Bayside, Queens. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein Queens Voice June 5, 2023 QUEENS - Cops are looking for a pair of burglars who broke into a Bayside home and made off with $250,000 in cash and jewelry.  At around 3 am on May 1, two men made their way to a house in the vicinity of 202 Street and 28 Avenue. Cops said the pair picked the lock to the front door and slipped inside the house which was not occupied at the time.  The burglars were caught on surveillance cameras inside the home in the kitchen and living room as they walked through the residence when they came upon a safe. Cops say the men then removed the safe from the home and fled in an unknown direction.  The stolen safe contained approximately $50,000 in cash and over $200,000 in jewelry, investigators said.  Police released surveillance video of the suspects from inside the home.
