Pair Wanted for Roughing Up Victims for Phones The NYPD is searching for a pair of cell phone muggers in Elmurst, Queens. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein Queens Voice  March 1, 2024 QUEENS - Cops are looking for  a pair of cell phone thieves who roughed up victims twice within a two-hour period.  The first incident took place at around 1:45 am on February 24 in Elmhurst. A 49-year-old man was walking in the vicinity of 84 Street and Roosevelt Avenue when he was approached by the duo. Cops said the men jumped on the victim and placed him in a headlock. While the victim struggled with one of the attackers, the other forcibly removed the man’s cell phone. The duo then ran off.  Less than two hours later cops said the same pair struck again. This time a 21-year-old man was walking in the vicinity of 99 Street and Roosevelt Avenue. Cops said one of the attackers grabbed the victim while the other pried the cellphone out of the victim’s hands. The thief also stole $40 from the man’s pockets.

Police are searching for this man in connection with a string of robberies in which thieves spray an unknown substance in the victims' eyes and steal their items. A robbery crew is targeting people looking to sell high-end items like Rolex watches and luxury handbags to people they meet online. In each of the cases the muggers spray a substance in the victim’s eyes before taking their bling.  The first case took place around 1 pm on November 19 in Fresh Meadows. Investigators said a 21-year-old man was meeting a seller for his Rolex watch in front of 73-46 194 Street. Before the sale could be carried out the would-be buyers sprayed an unknown substance in the victim’s face.
