Rockaway Commuters Bemoan Impending Service Cuts to A Train

  The only subway line out of the peninsula is scheduled for a 17-week shutdown for post-Sandy rehab — and riders are extremely vexed about it. This article originally appeared in The City. By  Haidee Chu QUEENS - Cheryl Motley, 62, rises at around 5 a.m. every weekday to make her two-hour commute from Far Rockaway, Queens to her office in Brooklyn on the A then R train. Come the new year, though, she will have to wake up even earlier as an upcoming service outage to the A train is set to shake up her routine. Cops said a man walked up to him and started to rummage through the straphanger’s pockets trying to steal his property.  The victim pushed him off and then pulled out his cellphone to record.  Unafraid, the suspect walked over to another passenger and took his skateboard. Metal Pipe Attack at Queens Plaza Station The NYPD is searching for this man in connection with an assault on a straphanger with a metal pipe. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein  Queens Voice February 18, 2024 QUEENS - A day after a Brazilian tourist was slashed across the neck at the Queens Plaza subway station, a man was beaten with a metal pipe at the same station in an another apparent random attack. At around 1 am on February 17, a 31-year-old man was standing on the platform at Queens Plaza Subway Station. Cops said an unknown male approached the straphanger and started arguing with him. The man walked off. Cops said the man came back with a metal pipe and repeatedly struck the straphanger in the head with the pipe. The attacker fled the scene and out of the station on foot. EMS rushed the victim to Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center where he was treated for lacerations about the head. He is listed in stable condition. Tourist Neck Slashed at Subway Station   The NYPD is searching for this man in connection with a slashing of a Brazilian tourist at a Queens subway station. -Photo by NYPD 2nd Brazilian Tourist Wounded in NYC in 2 Weeks By Dan Gesslein  Queens Voice  February 16, 2024  QUEENS - A Brazilian tourist was slashed across the neck at a Queens subway station during what is being called an unprovoked attack, the NYPD said.  At around 10:30 am on February 15, a 29-year-old tourist from Brazil was standing on the mezzanine level of the Queens Plaza subway station on the "E, M, R" line. Cops said without warning a man dressed in a black balaclava and gray hoodie walked up behind him and slashed the left side of the tourist’s neck with a knife.  The knife-totting suspect ran out of the station but not before his image was captured on subway surveillance cameras.  The victim was rushed by EMS to Elmhurst Hospital. Teen Charged in Robbery, Assault on Subway A 15-year-old male has been arrested in conenction with a mugging on a Queens subway. A second suspect is being sought. -File Photo By Dan Gesslein Queens Voice February 8, 2024 QUEENS - Cops arrested a Queens teenager in connection with the vicious mugging on a subway platform.  The NYPD announced the arrest of a 15-year-old male. He was charged with two counts of robbery. Police would not release the suspect’s name because he is a minor.  At around 3:40 pm on January 8, a 17-year-old male was standing on the platform for the L Train when he was approached by two males. Cops said without warning the two males began wailing on the victim.  The attackers repeatedly punched the victim while trying to remove his cellphone. Gunman Menaces Straphangers on Queens Subway Platform  The NYPD is searching for this man in connection with a menacing with a gun inside a Queens subway station. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein Queens Voice January 31, 2024 QUEENS - A man with a gun terrorized straphangers inside a Queens train station when he posed as if he was going to shoot riders during rush hour, the NYPD said.  At around 5 pm on January 23, a man covered with a face mask and hoodie, exited an E train at the Sutphin Boulevard-Archer Avenue Station. Cops said the man then pulled out a handgun and “stood in shooting stance on the train platform causing public alarm.”  No shots were fired and the gunman ran off in an unknown direction.  The suspect was caught on surveillance cameras coming out of the subway car. Serial Grocery Store Gunmen Rob 4 Sites in Queens The NYPD is searching for four men who stuck up four grocery stores throughout Queens. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein Queens Voice January 30, 2024 QUEENS - The NYPD is searching for a Queens robbery crew that stuck up four grocery stores and also stole a man’s car at gunpoint.  Investigators said the same crew of four males has struck four different grocery stores doing back to December 30, 2024. In each case the crew of four entered a store and displayed handguns. They demanded cash and forced the store worker to hand over the money from the register.  Cops said the crew stuck up grocery stores in Queens Village, Douglaston and Woodhaven.
