Teen Arrested in Subway Mugging in Queens

A second suspect is being sought. -File Photo By Dan Gesslein Queens Voice February 8, 2024 QUEENS - Cops arrested a Queens teenager in connection with the vicious mugging on a subway platform.  The NYPD announced the arrest of a 15-year-old male. He was charged with two counts of robbery. Police would not release the suspect’s name because he is a minor.  At around 3:40 pm on January 8, a 17-year-old male was standing on the platform for the L Train when he was approached by two males. Cops said without warning the two males began wailing on the victim.  The attackers repeatedly punched the victim while trying to remove his cellphone. Instead, cops said, the robbers only managed to remove $12 from the victim before running off.  Cops said another suspect is being sought in the mugging.  Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the

Hate Crime Attack Over Wearing Turban on Bus

Police are searching for this man in connection with an attack on a bus rider in which the attacker tried to remove the victim's turban. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein Queens Voice October 17, 2023 NEW YORK - The NYPD’s Hate Crime Unit is investigating the beating of a man on a Queens bus who was wearing a turban, cops said.  Police are looking at the assault on a bus in Richmond as a possible hate crime after the suspect shouted about the victim wearing a turban and tried to rip it off the man’s head. At around 9 am on October 15, a 19-year-old man wearing a turban was riding a shuttle bus in the vicinity of 118th Street and Liberty Avenue. Cops said another passenger suddenly began yelling at him unprovoked.

By Mayor Eric Adams  NEW YORK  - Our city is facing a crisis. New Yorkers with severe and untreated mental illness are living out in the open, on our streets and in our subways. They are in danger and need help. Yet often, the nature of their illnesses prevents them from seeking the support they require. My Administration is determined to do more to assist people with mental illness, especially those with untreated psychotic disorders who pose a risk of harm to themselves, even if they are not an imminent threat to the public. Moving forward, we will take several key steps.  The most important is for our outreach workers, hospital staff, and police officers to be aware that New York law already allows us to intervene when untreated severe mental illnes
