Renewable Energy Comes to NYC Hospitals Elmhurst has become the first NYC hospital to install solar panels. -Photo NYCHHC Queens Voice January 19, 2024 QUEENS – New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) Commissioner Dawn M. Pinnock and NYC Health + Hospitals President and Chief Executive Officer Mitchell Katz, MD, announced the completion of the first-ever solar panel installation at NYC Health + Hospitals. The 55KW installation at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst will supplement the facility’s daily energy use with cleaner, greener, renewable power.   Beginning in March 2020 with the initial design for the project, and completed this past December, the new Elmhurst Hospital solar power system will create power equivalent to that used in approximately 14 New York City households and will supplement the hospital’s existing power needs. Subway Stabbing at Queens Plaza

Subway Rider Stabbed in Leg in Queens The NYPD is searching for this man in connection with a stabbing inside a subway train at the Queens Plaza station. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein Queens Voice January 18, 2024 QUEENS - A straphanger was stabbed in the leg inside a subway car at Queens Plaza, the NYPD said.  At around 7:30 pm on January 10, a 36-year-old man was onboard a southbound R Train. As the train approached the Queens Plaza station, a man in a red hoodie tried to engage the straphanger in conversation. Cops said then, without warning, the man in the hoodie pulled out a sharp object and stabbed the straphanger in the left leg.  When the train reached the station, the stabber fled the train and took off in an unknown direction.  The victim was transported by private means to Staten Island North University. He was listed in stable condition.  The NYPD released surveillance video of the suspect pacing on the subway platform.   The suspect is described as a male

Jermain Rigueur Arrested for 5 Stabbings in Queens Police said they have made an arrest in the stabbing of five people in Queens. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein  Queens Voice January 18, 2024 QUEENS - Police have made an arrest in the serial stabbing spree that left five people injured and terrorized Queens residents. The suspect is a greeter at an area hospital. Jermain Rigueur was arrested yesterday for the five stabbings over a 24-hour period, the NYPD announced. The 27-year-old was charged with three counts of attempted murder, four counts of assault, one count of attempted assault, and criminal possession of a weapon, investigators said. Cops said the stabbing spree began around midnight on Jan 16. A 34-year-old woman was walking home in the vicinity of 158 Street & 134 Avenue. Cops said a man came from behind and then stabbed the woman on the right side of the torso.

The NYPD took to social media to get the word out about the attacker. In a post on X, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said the same man wanted for stabbing a woman in Queens is also responsible for three other random stabbings. “The person shows in this  @NYPDTips  poster is wanted for 4 unprovoked stabbing incidents that occurred in the area of Rochdale Village recently but may have travelled to other parts of NYC. Panhandler Stabs Man in Neck for Refusing to Hand Over Money The NYPD is searching for this man in connection with the stabbing of a Queens man who refused to hand him over money. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein  Queens Voice  January 12, 2024  QUEENS - A panhandler stabbed a Queens man in the back of the neck when the victim refused to hand him over money, cops said.  The NYPD released surveillance video footage of the suspect outside a Queens Village pawn shop.  At around 5 pm on January 11, a 22-year-old was inside a pawn shop on Jamaica Avenue when he was approached by a man asking for money. The victim refused and left the store.

Push-In Robber Caused Elderly Woman to Fall, Displays Knife The NYPD has announced the arrest in the push-in robbery in Queens in which a 92-year-old woman was thrown to the ground. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein Queens Voice January 12, 2024 QUEENS - Police have arrested a suspect in the push-in robbery in which an elderly woman was thrown to the floor and the robber menaced her with a knife.  The NYPD announced the arrest of 24-year-old Leo Hyun of 233 Street. He was charged with robbery, burglary and unlawful imprisonment.  At around 11 am on January 3rd, a young man knocked on the door to an elderly woman’s home in the vicinity of 231 Street and 64 Avenue. The 92-year-old woman opened the door and engaged in a conversation with the man.  Suddenly the man pushed his way inside and the victim fell to the floor. The attacker then displayed a knife to the elderly victim, cops said. The man took the victim’s wallet which contained credit cards and $100 cash before fleeing, co

New Photos of Rapist/Robber in Queens  The NYPD is searching for this man in connection with a sexual assault in Queens. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein  Queens Voice  January 10, 2024  QUEENS - Police released a new photo of a suspect who allegedly dragged a woman into an alley and sexually assaulted her. The new photo shows the suspect without a face mask.  At around 12:30 am on January 6, a 45-year-old woman was walking in the vicinity of Northern Boulevard and 110 Street in Spring Hills. Cops said a man in a light green hoodie walked up to her and produced a knife.  According to police the attacker dragged the woman into an alley and ripped off her necklace and headphones. Cops said the knife-wielding man then forced the victim to perform a sex act on him.
