MTA Seeks Blueprints for Interborough Express Spanning Brooklyn and Queens

NEW YORK - The next step for a proposed light-rail transit line between Brooklyn and Queens along 14 miles of existing freight tracks will be preliminary design work, MTA officials said Tuesday. The Interborough Express, a rail link between Bay Ridge and Jackson Heights, would have 19 stops and connect to 17 subway lines and the Long Island Rail Road. The MTA also said it is looking at potentially using an existing tunnel beneath a Queens cemetery instead of running street-level service in Middle Village. “We’re taking an underutilized train line, [which] basically gets one freight train a day, and turning it into something which is transformative for so many New Yorkers,” said MTA CEO Janno Lieber in announcing the request for design proposals. “It makes no sense that the 5 million people who live in Brooklyn and Queens

Muggers Beat Man for his Jewelry The NYPD is searching for this man and an accomplice in connection with a mugging in Queens. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein Queens Voice October 30, 2024 QUEENS - Cops are looking for a pair of muggers who threw a beatdown inside a Burger King parking lot in Queens.  At around 9 pm on October 13, a 46-year-old man was in front of the fast food eatery at 217-10 Hillside Avenue. Cops said two young men approached him and pushed him to the ground.  As the man lay on the floor, the duo repeatedly punched him throughout his body. One of the attackers ripped a necklace off his neck and the other forcibly removed the victim’s iPhone.  The attackers then ran off.  The victim sustained injuries but refused medical attention at the scene.  Cops said the stolen items are valued at $1,800.  The NYPD released photos of the mugging suspects as they sat in a subway car.  Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers

Laughing Bandits Run Off with Man’s Shoes

Mug Man for his Clothes  The NYPD is searching for this man and two others, in connection with a mugging of a man for his clothes. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein  Queens Voice  October 29, 2024  QUEENS - Cops are looking for a trio of laughing bandits who were caught on surveillance video running away from the scene of a mugging laughing while allegedly carrying the victim’s stolen clothes.  At around 4:30 am on September 22, a 26-year-old male had got into a conversation with three other males in the vicinity of 37th Avenue and 102nd Street in North Corona.  According to police, the victim and two of the men walked south on 102nd Street together. Then the two men began repeatedly punching the victim throughout the body. The attackers removed the victim’s cellphone, cash, jewelry and clothes including his sneakers.  Surveillance video shows one of the two suspects running back laughing while holding clothes and sneakers. Robbers Grope, Punch Woman   The NYPD is searching for these men in connection with a sexual assault and robbing of a woman in Ozone Park. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein  Queens Voice  October 29, 2024   QUEENS - A woman was sexually assaulted, beaten and robbed across the street from the future site of a mosque in Ozone Park, cops said.  At around 9:30 pm on October 26, a 26-year-old woman was walking in the vicinity of Glenmore Avenue and 76 Street. Across the street bears the sign of a mosque that is planned to be built there.  Cops said two men ran up to the woman and then began groping her chest and private area. Then one of the attackers punched the victim in the face while the other began rifling through her pockets. The attackers removed cash, headphones and a cellphone.  The muggers ran off northbound on 80 Street from Liberty Avenue.  Cops said the victim was not hospitalized.  The first suspect is described as a male with a slim build and a dark complexion. Attacked Near Park While Walking Home The NYPD is searching for this man in connection with the mugging of a child in front of a park in East Elmhurst. -Photo by NYPD By Dan Gesslein Queens Voice October 28, 2024 QUEENS - A pre-teen boy walking home was mugged in front of a park in broad daylight in Elmhurst, cops said.  At around 3 pm on October 24, a 12-year-old boy was walking in front of a park in the vicinity of 100th Street and 25th Avenue in East Elmhurst. Cops said a man ran up behind the boy and threw the tween in a chokehold.  The attacker ripped the child’s cellphone from his hands and than ran off. Cops said he fled on foot toward 27th Avenue.  The NYPD released surveillance video of the suspect. He is described as a male with a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a bright red hoodie, grey sweatpants and red sneakers. He also wore a black balaclava that covered his face.  Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stopper
